Why Blind John as the inspiration
for our brand ?
Blind John is more than a name, it’s a spirit, a symbol,
and a call to live boldly.
Inspired by the legendary blind knight Jean l’Aveugle, our brand was
born to celebrate those who chart their own course, even
when the path ahead is uncertain.
John’s story teaches us that true vision comes not from sight, but
from courage. Like him, we choose daring over doubt, instinct
over convention, and authenticity over imitation.
That’s why each of our aperitifs is handcrafted with natural ingredients
and bold flavours, a tribute to fearless spirits and joyful rebels.
Whether you’re raising a glass with friends or enjoying a quiet moment,
Blind John invites you to live your own legend, one sip at a time.
So, what will be your next conquest?
Historical Background
John of Luxembourg, known as Blind John, was born on August 10, 1296,
the son of Holy Roman Emperor Henry VII and Margaret of Brabant.
In 1310, he became King of Bohemia through his marriage to Elisabeth of Bohemia,
and in 1313, he inherited the title of Count of Luxembourg, strengthening
his family’s influence across Europe.
A knight driven by ambition, John roamed Europe’s battlefields, from Languedoc to
Lithuania, building alliances and pursuing his imperial dreams.
He fought alongside King Philip VI of France in 1328 against the Flemish, and in
1330 joined Pope John XXII in military campaigns in Italy.
Despite losing his sight, likely due to illness, Blind John remained deeply active.
In 1334, he married Beatrice of Bourbon and fathered Wenceslas,
later Emperor Charles IV.
At home, he strengthened Luxembourg’s defenses and, in 1340, founded the
Schueberfouer, a major annual fair that still thrives today.
Blind John’s life ended heroically at the Battle of Crécy in 1346, where he rode
into combat blind, led by two knights holding his horse.
His death became legend, a symbol of unwavering courage and noble spirit.
Today, Blind John stands as a timeless figure of bravery, innovation, and cultural pride.
His legacy lives on through Blind John, where history and bold
character infuse every drop.
